The specific objectives of the proposed action are to “increase inclusive access to quality education and learning for marginalized girls and CwDs in the COVID and post-COVID context”, “enhance local authorities’ accountability for resilient and gender-responsive education governance”, and “improve civil society influence and engagement in promoting rights to education and advocating for resilient and gender-responsive education governance”. The achievement of these specific objectives will contribute to the overall objective of “Inclusive quality education for marginalized girls and CwDs through resilient, gender-responsive education governance enhanced by CSO engagement.”. The action proposes to bring about these positive changes by working towards four interrelated intermediary outcomes: 1) Increase literacy, numeracy and life skills for marginalised girls and CwDs in Bara and Rautahat; 2) Promote school-centred civic engagement in two districts of Province 2 with marginalized communities collaborating to minimize educational barriers; 3) Enhance palika capacities in engagement in four districts of Province 2 on DRR, resilience, governance, inclusive education and data; 4) Strengthen CSO capacity to contribute to good governance in education, advocacy, and DRR.

Major Interventions 

  • Mentoring support to the most vulnerable children to continue learning
  • Child Clubs Initiatives to promote the classroom engagement (curricular and co-curricular and extra-curricular activities
  • IEC materials and psycho-social support to protect the most vulnerable children from exploitation during the COVID crisis
  • Facilitate the implementation of SSDP comprehensive school safety guideline minimum package through SIP strengthening incorporating school safety plan including WASH facilities)
  • Capacity development of key stakeholders on climate change, resilience, school governance and accountability (SMC/PTA, child, youth, women)
  • Complaint Response Mechanism
  • Parental awareness and engagement to enroll out of school (OOS) children to continue learning in the context of the COVID and post COVID crisis
  • Mobilization of youth including men and boys to challenge gender stereotypes and promote civic engagement in the COVID crisis
  • Teacher Professional Development on psycho-social support and gender-responsive pedagogy to reduce learning loss due to COVID crisis
  • Policy dialogue and lobbying at the municipal level (WASH, CPCS, School Safety, climate change, DRR, resilience, back to school campaign etc) and support for responsive, accountable governance through public hearing, gender and social audit
