Terms of Reference (ToR) for Start and Improve Your Business (SYIB) Training

Strengthening Community Resilience (SCR) Project

Background

Jan Jagaran Youth Club (JJYC) is a non-governmental, non-profit organization working in several districts of Nepal, including Parsa, Bara, Rautahat, Sarlahi, Dhanusha, Siraha, Saptari, Mahottari, Morang, Makawanpur, and Bardiya. It was established in 1998 by a group of youth from Telkuwa VDC who aimed to bring positive change to the Terai/Madhesh region. JJYC's focus areas include sustainable livelihood, entrepreneurship, poverty alleviation, health, water sanitation and hygiene, peace, democracy, good governance, education, women empowerment, advocacy, disaster risk reduction, and humanitarian support, with an emphasis on gender and social inclusion, climate change adoption, youth empowerment, and safe migration. The organization receives funding support from various national and international partners.

 

JJYC, a new local implementing partner for Islamic Relief Worldwide- Nepal, and is currently implementing a multi-sectoral holistic project- Strengthening Community Resilience (SCR) in the Bara district of Nepal that prioritizes different sectors including livelihood, WASH, Protection, DRR and CCA. The Project aimed at improving the livelihood and economic opportunities of poor & vulnerable households. 

 

Through this Terms of Reference (ToR), JJYC solicits proposals from qualified individuals with relevant experiences on "Start and Improve Your Business'' to train small-scale entrepreneurs of SCR project from Mahagadhimai Municipality and Subarna Rural municipality of Bara district. Entrepreneurship development training is essential to small-scale entrepreneurs along with other training and inputs/technical assistance to improve their services and/or assess their efforts against best practice standards. In line with the project objective for sustainable income generation, the project will help small entrepreneurs to start up and revive their businesses. 

 

 

Objectives of the Assignment

The objective of this TOR is to engage a qualified trainer with co-trainer to conduct a training program on the SIYB program. The training program will be targeted at entrepreneurs and small business owners who are looking to start or improve their businesses.

 

  • Conduct and facilitate the Start and Improve Your Business (SIYB) training based on International Labour Organization (ILO) manual to training participants.
  • Facilitate to develop the individual business plan as per the beneficiary's interest in the business startup
  • To enable the selected beneficiaries to start and grow their enterprise

 

Scope of Services and Tasks and Activities to be completed

The overall scope of this assignment is to hire a Trainer (Facilitator) to facilitate the ILO certified entrepreneurship development training called Start and Improve Your Business-SIYB. Activities will include, but may not be limited to, the following: 

  • Preparation for the sessions, resources and submission the session to JJYC prior to training
  • Execute pre and post-test evaluation of the participants. 
  • Facilitate the training program as lead facilitator with support from co-facilitator for 30 days (6 events X 5 days in total, number of event is subject to change/increase).
  • Responsible for collection and preparation of training materials required for the training.

 

 

Outputs/Deliverables

 The following deliverables are expected from the consultant in due process of the assignment: 

  • Conduct and facilitation of the entrepreneurship training at municipal level to 150 IGA selected members through 6 training events.
  • Finalization of comprehensive business plan, costing of the multiple products for 150 trainees. Trainees increased ability to follow the developed business plan.
  • Trainees improved ability to start enterprises and marketing of their product
  • Training materials from the consultant and a combined training completion report

Reporting Line

The consultant will report to JJYC’s Program Coordinator.

Timeframe

The estimated input of the consultant is 30 days (6 events- 5 days for training delivery in each event). The assignment is expected to start on 3rd  week of May 2023. The exact dates will be determined in consultation with the trainer.

 

Qualifications and experience of the consultant

  1. Minimum a bachelor’s degree in Business study or social sciences-related fields. Preferably a master’s degree. 
  2. At least 3 years experiences on developing and delivering the content of SIYB training. 
  3. Experience in business management and entrepreneurship, including the challenges and opportunities that entrepreneurs and small business owners face.
  4. Knowledge of the SIYB program and its training materials.
  5. Extensive knowledge on Business development and micro entrepreneurship.  
  6. Excellent report writing skills in both English and Nepali.
  7. Capacity to present the content in clear and straightforward to the targeted participants.
  8. Excellent communication and facilitation skills.
  9. Ability to work with people from diverse backgrounds and cultures.

 

Payment Schedule

  • 30% upon both parties’ agreement
  • 70 % after completion of training and submission of final report
